Pastor hopes "A Star Wars Christmas" will attract millennials

Talk about “A New Hope!” A church in Kochville Township, Mich., thinks it’ll take a bit more than the Holy Spirit to attract congregants — specifically a different kind of force.

The Rev. Jonathan Herron, of the nondenominational Christian Life Church, is attempting to attract 20- and 30-something church-goers with “A Star Wars Christmas,” a promotion which will include family activities like make-your-own lightsabers and franchise merchandise giveaways, according to MLive.com.

The biggest draw? The pastor will also be giving away 300 opening day tickets to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at a local theater on Dec. 18. New Life Church attendees can enter to win a pair of free tickets each time they attend a service, through Dec. 13, while veteran Life Church-goers can enter by bringing a guest. Additionally, a five-star review of the church on Facebook or Google, or a Facebook check-in, can net you an entry into the contest. The church offers three services each Sunday.

The pastor has previously used comedy and music performances to attract communicants.

“It’s not corny. It’s not silly. Like I said, we’re serious about our faith, just not serious about ourselves,” Herron told MLive.
